Our Focus:

Palou Phelps Park is a rare native wildflower grassland, an endangered ecosystem with native plants that attract pollinators in the Bayview of San Francisco. Protecting the biodiversity of this underserved neighborhood and preserving the two-and-a-half-acre untouched hill is crucial. Today, one-third of the park is under threat of building development. We are collaborating with city agencies to enhance public access and preserve the park and natural grassland.

What we do

  1. Protect A Last Natural Open Space & Our Neighborhood: This isn't just about new development; it's about the direct impact on your daily life. We need to stop a proposed road extension and potential development that threatens our cherished natural hill space, impacts parking, and could make it unsafe for kids to play. Join us to preserve this rare green space in Bayview.
  2. • Act – Your Voice is Important:We need to organize before it's too late. Decisions about our neighborhood are being made by the Planning Commission. Join our email list. And lets gather 1,000+ signatures on our MoveOn.org petition to show DBI, DPW, Rec & Park our strong community opposition. Your signature and presence at meetings can make a difference.
  3. Preserving Our Environment: The proposed development threatens an environmentally sensitive hill with unique plants, wildlife, and serpentine rock. We're working with environmental experts like Nature in the City to protect these natural resources that should be protected. Let's stand together to defend our special local ecosystem that our neighborhood values.
  4. • raise funds to support these efforts

The mission of Friends of Palou Phelps is to nurture community stewardship and provide advocacy for the care and maintenance of Palou Phelps playground and Natural Area.
